As this is a fantasy role-playing forum I'm sure everyone (well almost everyone) is itching to test out their characters in battle. However any "fights" would get boring pretty quickly if authors don't frequently post, or (even worse) post single actions per post.

I propose certain rules, which the moderator may wish to edit as he sees fit.

(1) No overly long posts, these disrupt the flow of the fight.

(2) Check character backgrounds and abilities frequently. Some authors (myself included) occasionally update their characters. This will give you a greater understanding of how your opponent reacts in battle. It would helps an author control another author's character in his/her abscence (for the sake of continuity)

(3) Be realistic, my character would never dream of defeating a dragon all on his own. A special note to the dragon's; I expect you will be less agile than your opponents due to your sizes. You should take this into account during fights.

(4) Drop hints while "fighting". If you want to gain a significant advantage, you should let your opponents know in advance. e.g if a wizard wants to freeze his opponent, the author should state his character used a freezing spell (but not state what happens next, that's up to your opponent)

(5) Opponents should fight fair as well, this includes them making mistakes, or taking time to readjust their footing, e.t.c

(6) Minor advantages can be gained without opponent's permission, but immediately lost. e.g character A pushes B off balance, but A's next strike is dodged by B. This is also for the sake of continuity.

(7) Remember, it isn't about winning or what your character can do. It's about how your character reacts to strange situations, I would feel good about my character if he didn't come across as a Gary Stu, lol.

That's all I guess. I'm not making anyone to follow these rules, but you have to admit they make sense, right?

I agree. However i think the dragons could be more agail while in human form. I also think dragons shouldn't burn down the tavern b/c then we couldn't talk anymore. and it would just get boring. However we all could work together and make a new forum where we are all on a quest or something that would be fun.

It would actually be pretty cool to go on a quest. Also, you are right in saying the dragon's are more agile in human form. I was just kinda worried cos i could picture a scene in which all the characters save one dragon died (lol, i don't think anyone should be allowed to die either)

Well, people shouldn't be able to kill other characters with out the person's permission. That's usually a rule of tumb.

Cool. Yo, Evil Minion; what do you think about an actual quest? Could it be done?

Most likely, if it was worked like a game of Dungeons and Dragons; with one person running the "quest" part and everyone else taking the parts of "players." I've generally found this to be the best way to handle big groups of people, so you don't have 6 people competing over what the "main quest" is and who the "main character" is, though everyone can add in their own plot twists

I see, I have never played dungeons and dragons before though so I don't really lnow how it works...

It's like an interactive story (like most Role Playing) though one person has a nice, big plot set up that they give a few details on, create "NPC" characters, and let others react and sometimes add their own twists on. It's surprising how quickly things change from how you were expecting them to go.

Thanks, and I've been meaning to ask: what's NPC?

I can make a forum that has a quest/roleplay thingy. however i need some ideas for quests first. i agree that at the tavern no one should die.

Non-Playable character. It's a term to refer to characters that everyone can control, as long as they stick to their purpose and personality. A normal character, you usually can't make react, get hit by an attack, or the likes. But an NPC is a diffrent question. Even though you can't kill them with out the creator's permission, they're still a bit more controlable for you to get your way.

And the fourms thing would be lovely. What host do you plan to use?

Let's see where the tavern plot goes first. You can think up some ideas for a quest in the meantime though.

Oh, and thanks for the info on NPCs.

Whole-heartedly agree with the rules. Gary stus are SO...

Yes, I KNOW one of the characters I'm running is a dragon but that doesn't mean he'd win in a fight. In fact, he's more the type to cut and run.

As for the quest idea: sounds fun.

Girlbrainiac

I can add these to the rules page if needed. On the topic of the quest idea, if you all want we can make a mechanism for spawning specific threads in this forum that are set outside the tavern for the sake of questing.

Heh, agree with the original poster. Having participated in a few RPs I've come across such situations on occassion, and...well...let's say it's not fun when someone HAS to win and uses a deus ex machina all on its own.

Well. Still setting up shop here...so be forewarned...not much time till the weekend. I'll try to catch up.

*GASPAGE*

But corp... how could you make it get any worse :O

Heh. Eldarath's intended to be an incendary-thought I'd throw one in and see what happens. *Snicker* Don't worry, you can ask evil minion number 2-I don't do Gary Stus. Very Happy

LOL, I hope Eldarath won't be accompaying us on any quests?

Maybe. Maybe not. I'd need to find a proper motivation for someone with his personality to go on a quest or something on those lines.

I should thank you now for adding a hateable character to the mix. I think Girlbrainiac was going that rout with Mezzik, and Camalot777 somehow did that by accident, but yeah points for screwing with the tavern Very Happy

I am all for the quest thingy! Count me in....oh and TY of course. :-)

Aww, having Eldarath on a quest would make things twice as hard to perdict! I mean, where's the fun if everyone has the same morals and ideals?

An example is two diffrent RPs, with the same base "quest/plot." Now, what would you rather see...

A band of heroic men going against a drow city in the name of truth and justice?

Or a acentric paladin, an egomanic half-demon, a cliche hero of a half-celesital, and a shy half-drow pitted against not only a city of drow, but against each other half the time?

I'd assume the second, since it forces your characters to deal with having to work with people they don't agree with, and also can show a bit more about their train of thought than the other situation.

And from Lccorp's writings, I can tell you he's probally using the type of character I love (loathe form a character's point of view) who are either equil or weaker than their opponents in power and stregnth, yet still beat them hands down in a fair fight!

*ahem* Well, the real reason for this post beyond that little rant above was to question one thing: how far can you assume with someone else's character? Can you assume if they dodge any attack? Can you assume that they'd sneze if you threw pepper in their nose? I just think a few "guidelines" should be in place, though I might just be being a stick in the mud.

I don't think we need to build an entirely new forum just for questing; we'll be fine just spawning a specific topic for each quest. That way the Tavern stays as its own sort of hub for the network it is building.

On a random note, Rem is going to be interesting to write for in any sort of quest we try because, in his actual story, there is no magic. It's fantasy, with fantasy characters and a few fantasy races, but still...

After reading this forum about, what, a hundred times, I think this quest idea is, ideally, fun. I'm so used to doing RP's, and I think this is a great idea. So count me in!

Angel: Ahem...

Oh, and Angel, too.

Angel: Better.

Sorry for not being around to reply to the past posts. Work in real life been dragging me down, and I know how such things can harm the storyline...

I was initially going to create an orc, troll, or some other generic evil fantasy race, you know the drill. After looking at the "character sheets" of some other characters in the tavern, I DID realise that any "evil" character had to at least be able to make the others think twice about wanting to kick him/her out of the door, given so many UBAR-SPESHUL abilities they have. I couldn't put one of my university fraternity orcs in from my parodies, because she'd get kicked out the door or hacked to pieces quickly for being an orc. =P

So...I settled on black dragon. Everyone knows they're horribly EVVVVIL, and yet might think twice about wanting to fight one. Although on retrospect, a wyvern or something else might have worked...

No probs man, real life drags us all down. Your dragon's personality is really cool as well. As you've probably noticed, I'm still having trouble characterising Roger. I hope he doesn't come across as an uberkid though... (you can tell the truth, I won't take offence)

Yo. I found a great website for people interested in world-building...

http://www.sfwa.org/writing/worldbuilding1.htm

Oh, and on another note I'm reverting Roger back to his water controlling capabilities (he's just too powerful otherwise).

Hi all of you out there!

I... eerr... uummm... Knight Metis would love to go questing too! So long as having a slightly grumpy paladen tpye of charater in you comglmoerate of wacky mis-matche charaters would be ok, lol. But be warned he will try to make you all see "the Light" as he walks the path of the "Light" - being an Emasary to his God and King and all, lol. But then again he's not aloud to "judge" people and he's not supposed to "force" his beliefs on others eather, so I think it could be intresting. =:0)

~Marjorie

Everyone in the Tavern is probably allowed to join the quest (when we actually get round to it). So long as they aren't irredeemably evil I think ;D

Another thing though. Could people spell "god" with a lowercase "g" when not referring to God Almighty? I'm christian you see and we're very particular about that.

Himura-D:

I will try to use a lowercase "g" but it is VERY out of charater for Metis to refer to his god with a lowercase "g" and well, when I'm in charater, you'll have to fogive me if I use a capitol "g" here and there... You see Metis does think a Mithesius as "God Almighty" and I can get into his mindset and then forget about the "real" world some times. ::giggles:: Besides isn't that the reason we like to RP in the first place?

I think you could get away with using a "g" as opposed to "G". Metis thinks his "god" is all that, but you know it isn't hence you use the lowercase.

i agree w/ the lower case "g" thingy. i cann't wait to go on a quest!!! i want to make something clear since there are so many of us dragon folk. Only females are rare. not the males. As you can see b/c i am the only one compared to ....um...how ever many there are of you. well g2g. wbs!

That's funny because in my story it's the oposite... males are rare compared to the females.

I have decided to discontinue one of my characters, Blyan. b/c their is too many dragon males. and this place is getting too many.

Blyan: Hey! that's not fair!! As soon as I find a place that actually has a female dragon you kick me out...

I don't care shut up!!!
